Is Your Church Being Destroyed by Omnitrition's hCG Diet?

Little did I know that when I posted about Omnitrition distributors preying on other church members just how bad it was.  Since then, I've heard from people who say this is happening in their churches.
First of all, you know my story:

I ended up with terrible side effects from the diet.  Once I ended up with serious problems, I lost my Omnitrition support.  One gal who was doing the diet with me quickly took me off Facebook so her customers would not know about my side effects.  She and I started the diet together and provided support throughout it until I had side effects.  We were both pushed to sell the diet.  I had declined but she eagerly joined because this was how God wanted her to make money, or so she said.
Before our friendship dissolved, I could see she was targeting the members of her church.  I remember thinking that they'd be easy marks.    In church, you're more likely to trust others in the church and you may be a bit more naive about multi-level marketing practices.
In fact, I've come to realize that churches seem to bear the brunt of this type of activity:

That website has some great resources on churces and MLM marketing.  The stories never end well.  While people selling the diet tell you they just want to share how they've lost weght, don't be fooled, in the end, they just want your money.  I witnessed firsthand how they want nothing to do with you when the products they sell hurt you.
On top of that, factor in that when you stop this diet, you're going to get fat again.  The exceptions are those who do rounds of Omni Drops for the rest of their lives or start training for half marathons.  So many people have shared with me how this diet made them fatter.  Distributors will tell you that these people clearly didn't follow protocol and went back to their old eating habits.  I can tell you that even eating below my basil metabolic rate, I still gained all the weight back plus some.  So many people have messaged or emailed me to say the same thing happened to them.
So, you've got church members over time falling away from this diet and getting fatter.  What is a distributor to do?  Well, distributors aren't known for compassion and empathy, at least they aren't known for it once you are harmed by the diet.   They are going to be telling others in the church that these people clearly didn't follow protocol.  Distributors want money.  They're not going to get it once word gets out that the hCG diet makes you fatter over time or makes your hair fall out or destroys muscle or whatever.  Feelings are going to be hurt and, as so many websites point out, MLM schemes in the church never end well.
If you feel your church is being harmed by this diet and its sellers, pray about it and talk to your pastor.  The longer it goes on, the more harm it is likely to do. <link>www.squidoo.com/unsafe_hcg_diet</link>
